This paper is an exploration of Bach's two-part cantata, which was rare at the time. Even though this work is sacred in nature, the research included in this paper shows that this particular cantata was more secular.
An Exploration of African American Spirituals
In this research essay, African American Spirituals and the spaces that they are performed in are analyzed. There can be a correlation between the spaces the spirituals are sung in and the choirs that perform them as HBCU's, historically, perform spirituals in ways that are different than primarily white institutions.
Historical Album Review: Billie Holiday
This particular paper was part of a project for a class titled African American Music Appreciation. It dived into Billie Holiday's self-titled album and also explored some of her most popular songs from that album as well, including Strange Fruit.
